Asbestos Cement Water Main cut using PowerGrit, the HSE approved saw.
Bartlett Contracts, based in Sturminster Newton, were contracted by Wessex Water to lay a new trunk main in Somerset. Part of the project involved cutting into an existing 300mm AC Main.
Wessex Water advised Bartletts that the Hydraulic PowerGrit Saw could be used as it falls within HSE Guide Lines.
An ICS 890 F4 PowerGrit saw was connected via a 7metre hose set to the powerful ICS 18hp P95 Hydraulic Power Pack. Water was supplied from the battery powered 35ltr HOP 35 Water Tank with a water check carried out to ensure that there was sufficient flow through all six jets along the guide bar.
Two cuts were made, each taking around five minutes. The section of the pipe was lifted out and bagged up ready for disposal.
The advantages that PowerGrit gives are clean, accurate cuts with minimal operator effort and without any dust being produced.
